Food game for kids: create a colorful plate

This food game for kids doesn’t require any special props: all you need is a plate, a few ingredients and a little imagination. “What are we having today?” can become a much more fun question when children take part in putting the meal together.

The idea is simple. You prepare the ingredients, and your child decides how to arrange them. This gives them a chance to explore new colours, smells and shapes of food at their own pace, without feeling that they have to taste everything they put on the plate.

How to prepare a food game for kids?

Place a few ingredients you already have at home on the table. For example:

  • cooked pasta, rice or pieces of bread
  • sliced tomatoes, cucumber or cooked carrots
  • cheese, a boiled egg or another food your child likes
  • a little Orgula Bio Junior olive oil as a finishing touch

Choose foods and cutting methods that are appropriate for your child’s age. Then give them a task: “Can you make a plate with three colours?”

If they want, children can also make a face out of vegetables, a road from pieces of bread or a garden on their plate. There is no right answer.

Give your child a choice, but keep the rules simple

Offer two or three choices instead of all the foods in the fridge. For example: “Would you like to add tomatoes or carrots today?” This way, your child can take part while keeping meal preparation simple.

Once the plate is ready, you can add a little Orgula Bio Junior olive oil together. Ask your child what they like most about their plate. Today, they may simply observe a new food, and next time they might decide to taste it. That is also part of getting to know new foods.
