This love should be encouraged because gardening teaches important skills such as responsibility, love of nature, creativity, while also encouraging their spirit of exploration and physical activity.

How to involve children?

If you have a garden or a yard, set aside a small area and let your child take care of it – the happiness and confidence when the fruits of their labor in the garden are harvested or gathered will be immeasurable. Prepare the soil by breaking it up with a hoe and, if necessary, adding organic fertilizer. If you live in an apartment, this does not mean that gardening for children is no longer an activity. Prepare tubs or containers for plants and fertile soil that you can buy at the store.

Start with herbs

When choosing a crop to sow or plant, choose hardier varieties that are often used in cooking, because that way your child will experience the magic of using herbs that they have grown themselves. Herbs are an ideal choice – they are easy to grow (they grow quickly, only the leaves of the plant can be taken, while the root remains in the ground and the plant sends out new shoots) and have a wide range of culinary uses. If you are growing the plant in an apartment, find a well-lit place for it. Explain to your child more about the plant’s living conditions (light, soil, water) and let him just make sure that all these conditions are met. You can also make a table as a reminder so that when he waters his herbs, he can write it down.

It grows and is eaten.

One of the advantages of growing herbs is that they grow quickly, which means your child will be able to keep track of the changes that are happening. When the plant grows to a size that can be consumed, don’t forget to really include it in meal preparation! Gardening for children in this way is a great way to learn and use different ingredients in food.

Prepare tomato sauce with Orgula Junior Bio extra virgin olive oil and enhance it with your own oregano, or add the distinctive aroma of freshly picked basil to your homemade pizza and provide the whole family with a nutritious and delicious meal. The combinations depend only on your imagination, and one thing is for sure – the kids will enjoy and be proud that everyone at the table is eating the work of their hands.
If you are interested in more such topics, ideas and content, follow us on social networks.

Gardening can be a real joy for children – they quickly become interested in tools and digging their fingers into the soil, exploring every detail.
