When to include olive oil in baby food?

During early childhood, the body develops rapidly, and nutritionists advise introducing olive oil into the diet from the age of six months.
“When talking about olive oil, extra virgin olive oil should be used in children’s diets,” emphasizes ŠKMER Culinary Academy associate Dr. Vesna Bosanac, explaining: “Oil with this label is obtained directly from the olive fruit by mechanical processing, without chemical or other additives, which makes it a completely natural food and an excellent source of healthy fats.”

Which flavor to choose?

The flavors of extra virgin olive oil depend on the olive variety, agrotechnical growing conditions, climate, ripeness of the fruit, and processing method. Dr. Vesna Bosanac, also the author of the book “Nutrition for Young Athletes”, suggests: “It’s best to combine extra virgin olive oils of different flavors. Milder oils will go well with delicately flavored foods and will pair great with first vegetable purees, such as those made with boiled zucchini or potatoes, while adults will enjoy the spicier flavors of extra virgin olive oil more.”
