What is needed for the game: Organizing this game doesn’t require much preparation. A few simple things are enough:
- a small basket, bag or box for collecting “found treasures”
- paper and pencil (or a pre-prepared list of things for the children to find)
- not necessary, but children might like it – a magnifying glass for observing details in nature
The list includes simple tasks such as finding different leaves, interestingly shaped stones, fruits, twigs or flowers. It all depends on the location where you are.
Goal of the game: The goal of the game is to encourage children to explore nature, notice details, and develop their curiosity. Through searching for different natural objects, children learn to distinguish shapes, colors, and textures, while also spending time moving and in the fresh air.
The game also encourages teamwork and communication if multiple children participate.
Game rules: The rules are simple and can be adapted to the age of the children:
- A parent or game leader prepares a list of things that children need to find in nature.
- Each child gets their own basket or bag.
- The children go on a search and try to find as many things from the list as possible.
- It is important to explain to children that nature should be respected – not to pull up growing plants and not to take anything that could damage the environment.
After the game is over, everyone looks at what they found together and discusses what they discovered.
